My Propeller is a single from Humbug, which I admit, didn't like their album the first time around but, the single made me change my mind about things. The single includes "My Propeller" and 3 other songs that are not on the record, I didn't care too much for "My Propeller", but the other 3... They're a real treat.
The album kicks off with "My Propeller", obvious choice for the first track, and it's great, less bass would be nice though. Then my favorite off the single, "Joining The Dots" plays and I was speechless. "The Afternoon's Hat" and "Don't Forget Whose Legs You're On" follow the same formula. I just didn't know what to say. It was positive though, I did like what I... no, Loved what I heard.
When I listened to Humbug I just thought "Why'd they change their sound? I'm sure they don't want to sound the same as their previous records, but that's what they're known for!" After listening to My Propeller I understood that I couldn't base a band after a record or two, I had to look at each album as a whole new entity. I now have a new respect for Humbug and the direction the Arctic Monkeys are headed.
Although I do prefer earlier Arctic Monkeys, the new Arctic Monkeys isn't too far behind for my liking. My Propeller really stands out as being the most mature release in their catalog.

What Do I Like About This Album? (Single)
My Propeller, I mean, there's so much to like about it. One, the flow that the Arctic Monkeys have, it's amazing and it's really indescribable. You have to listen to it for yourself. Another thing you have to love about it is the melodies themselves, you'll find yourself wanting to sing it all the time. It sounds like Alex Turner definitely is trying out a Jim Morrison kind of style and I like it a lot, that psychedelic vibe he gives off, oh man! It's just great. The 4 songs are just awesome, I even took the time to learn "Joining The Dots" on guitar and learn how to sing it as soon as I heard it, I think my band might have to cover it! I highly recommend this single to ANY music lover.
