It's been a semester into the new school year and simply put, it's still the same as all the other years we spend here in this prison. The people are still the same, the teachers are still the same, nothing has changed. School is mostly a drag but there are some plus sides to coming back to it day by day.
I was thinking about what I like and dislike about school and I came up with this simple list.
Like:
1. Friends
School is horrible and to most it's a waste of time, but to me, having friends in your classroom and in the hallways makes school bearable. They talk to you to pass the time and if you're like me, they're there to have some laughs and get in trouble with.
2. Fun Teachers
Teachers aren't always mean and horrible. Some of them are pretty nice and can be your friends. I find it great that some teachers actually talk about something other than school related things like my health teacher talking about new shows he watches: Jersey Shore. You never expect that and it brings the teacher and the class together! They don't try to make the classroom dark like the music video to Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall" (Wouldn't it be rad if we could trash a classroom like that?)
3. Football Games
Football games after school on Fridays were awesome! Although, I never actually watched the football games, they were fun to attend to for social conversations and to revisit friends who go to other schools. I did pay attention to the scores though and I cheered when we were scoring. One complaint I would have about attending football games are awkward conversations with people you don't really talk to and they keep following you around like a puppy >:/
4. Promoting Your Band Or An Event
Well, being in a band means nothing if you don't have fans to listen to your music. Your band can gain a little publicity by student body word of mouth. "Dude, they rocked last night!" The better your band, the more positive "reviews" about your band will be spread and more people will want to listen (now... if your band sucks... that can get spread around too and no one will want to hear you) School can definitely help you get the word out about your band or any event that you're trying to promote. In our case, there was a battle of the bands that we wanted people to know about and the principal kindly accepted to letting us post flyers around the school.
5. Good Environment
We like to think of school as a prison but it really isn't, at least ours isn't... It may look like a prison on the outside but it's actually kind of cool. Most of the people are nice, the facilities are clean, the hallways are clean, we have computers to use freely, the library is nice... I mean, the school is nice! I hate when people describe it as a "shit-hole" or a "dump"
Hate:
1. Drama
The thing I most hate about going to school is drama. It's so unnecessary. People don't grow up and resolve things maturely, it leads to more and more problems for everybody. Especially when it's for stupid reason... I snap when people are dramatic!
2. Busy Work
Sometimes, teachers don't have much planned out for the day and they give you busy work... work to keep you quiet and busy. Why? Everybody knows the material (because everyone scored an A on a quiz) and they still insist on giving us more work to "fully comprehend the subject." Teachers: Don't be lazy and teach us something new for a change (wow... never thought I'd be saying that)
3. Cliques
Cliques, the unavoidable. Cliques are really visible in our school, you can just point out anybody and tell where they belong. I'm not saying I don't belong in a clique because I do, I think I fall under the "rocker" and "class clown" categories. There are your typical cliques like jocks, plastics, burnouts, artsy, gangstas, nerds, and those popular people that are super fake.
4. Homework
This is an obvious "hate" because it's on everybody's list. I understand the importance of practicing material at home to comprehend a subject, but do we really need a lot of it every day? If everyone is getting a good grade, is there a reason to bring it down if someone forgets to do an assignment? I think not.
5. People That Won't Shut The F&%$ Up
There are those people that nobody likes and they try so hard to be cool and fit in somewhere by talking about things that didn't happen. This makes me sound like a huge asshole, but face it, it's true. More people would like them if the person would just be real and try not to be something different than what they are. Currently my group of friends are annoyed with an individual that is like this and nobody feels comfortable talking to him/her.
"Yeah, I won a surfing competition in California and I won $2,000. A girl came up to me and made out with me afterwards." Hahaha, yeah right!
